(Reporter 50, April 2004) Laing Contractors Christchurch, New Zealand, have invested in a GradeStar 3D
machine control from Leica Geosystems to deliver engineering value and provide
greater job site accuracy. The GradeStar machine control system, based on the
robotic TPS1100 Total Stations series, was installed on a Cat 12G grader over an
existing Sonicmaster system. This 3D machine control system enables grader
operators to complete grading work in a shorter amount of time, more efficiently
and with greater accuracy. läs mer

“I was pretty skeptical. I really didn’t think it would go as quick as it did…but Cyrax would be my choice
for this type of project going forward. What I see as one of the biggest benefits of this technology, however,
is being able to avoid return visits to the site. When a client says, ‘Can you get this additional information
for me?’ we can just go into our scans and retrieve it and produce the information they need in a couple of
hours instead of having to spend another day to go back out and do more surveying.”

Millions of people have seen it in books and on postcards; millions more have seen it at first hand during a visit to Australia. Survey engineer Steve Denning also knows it from above and below: a quartercentury after the Opera House was inaugurated, his know-how was needed to assess the effects of weather and sea-water on the structure, and fix the wear and tear. The initial task was to restore the granite promenade surrounds and sea wall of the Opera House. läs mer
