Solutions for Engineering - Roads
Leica Geosystems' range of instruments can be used in the survey, construction and maintenance of roads, highways, and motorways.
Urban Roadway Survey
"The essential practice of field checking now reveals significantly fewer corrections in CAD drawings extracted exclusively from point cloud data, minimising the costs in the QA process." Duncan Lees, 3D Team Leader, Plowman Craven läs mer
Everyday Virtual Surveying
In the January 2006 issue of POB Magazine, American Surveying Consultants (ASC) details their field and office procedures for highly cost-effective road surveys based on the latest Leica HDS products. Covetine Fidis is the author of the article "Everyday Virtual Surveying: Laser Scanning Becomes 'Best Practice' in the Transportation Industry," published in Point of Beginning on January 3, 2006. läs mer
HDS in Highway Widening
Dave Stewart is the author of the article, "A picture is worth 45 million data points," published in the July 2005 edition of CE News. läs mer
Uses in Transportation
"Uses in Transportation," by Geoff Jacobs was printed in the April 2005 issue of the Professional Surveyor Magazine. It covers some of the latest uses of high-definition surveying/3D laser scanning technology in transportation projects. läs mer
Laser Scanning for Everyday Survey Work
"Laser Scanning for Everday Survey Work," first appeared in The American Surveyor • Jan/Feb 2005 issue. The article covers Metco Services of Detroit, Michigan's experiences with 3D laser scanning. In particular, the article touches on a successful as-built project that took place in Kennedy Square. This project was documented in The American Surveyor article and in a case study for Leica Geosystems HDS. Both the article and case study are available for download on this page. läs mer
Toll Plazas: Economical 2D
“Not only did Cyrax and CloudWorx help us win the as-built portion of the project (40% cost savings to the client and faster delivery), but we also had a very positive project execution experience with CloudWorx. It enabled our CAD technicians to quickly learn how to efficiently process point clouds into 2D drawings directly inside MicroStation.” Greg Lawes, Manager, Laser Scanning Services, Washington Group International läs mer
Bohannan Huston uses Leica HDS
"Project Pegasus Flies," by Bradley E. Adams and James V. Flint was published on December 12, 2003 in Point of Beginning magazine. The article is available on the POB website. läs mer
Medina Benefits from HDS
"The Fine Points of Scanning," by James Steere and Michael W. King was published in the online version of Point of Beginning magazine as a cover story on May 24, 2003. The article is available in the archive on the POB website. läs mer
MOBA-Matic System

Accurate DTM and cross sections of a busy highway
(Reporter 50, Apr 2004) The New Jersey Department of Transport (DOT) is replacing a traffic circle at a heavy traffic intersection of State routes 30 and 130. A professional engineering design and consulting firm hired Medina Consultants, P.C. to provide accurate crosssections and a digital terrain model (DTM) of the existing four and six-lane roadway. läs mer
Rockface Quantity Survey
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation contracted rock removal from a rock face overlooking SR322 at Mt. Pleasant, PA. In order to verify the contractor’s estimate regarding the the volume of rock removed, PennDOT scanned the face using the Cyrax system. Contour maps generated directly within Cyra Software were exported to AutoCAD® and MicroStation®. Volumetric information was compared to that prepared by the contractor. läs mer
